On Friday (08/19/16) evening around 9:00pm, officers from the Rehoboth Beach Police Department responded to area of the Grenoble Place parking lot, which is located on the south side of the Henlopen Hotel, for a report of a robbery.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 51 year old female victim who was standing at her vehicle. The victim informed officers that as she was driving south on Lakeview Street and was stopped by a male who yelled at her for driving too close to him as he was crossing the street. Scared by the encounter, the victim drove to a nearby parking lot, where she parked her vehicle. When she exited the vehicle, she was approached by the suspect and two other males.
The victim attempted to photograph the suspect and call the police at which time he assaulted the victim and knocked her phone out of her hand. The victim was able to flee to the Boardwalk and contact the police. A search of the area was later conducted and neither the suspect nor the victim’s phone could be located. As a result of the assault, the victim sustained a minor laceration to her lip.
The suspect is described as a heavy set white male with short brown hair weighing approximately 250 to 270 pounds. The suspect was wearing shorts and a green shirt at the time of the incident and was accompanied by two other males.
At this time, this incident is being investigated as an assault.
