City Hall Celebrates an Afternoon of Art

Oct 21, 2019

The City of Rehoboth Beach celebrated an Afternoon of Art on Thursday, October 17th, at City Hall. The public was invited to attend the event that featured the Coastal Camera Club, Rehoboth Art League, Bill Wolff’s tree sculpture and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the coastal- themed mural by Brett Steeves. The Coastal Camera Club’s exhibition of new work included nature photography, still-lifes, abstract images, and landscapes. The Rehoboth Art League’s members showcase is the finest renditions of local iconic scenes such as the boardwalk, eateries, state parks, and famous landmarks.

The City of Rehoboth Beach relaunched an updated version of its popular tree donation program first started on Arbor Day in 1987. The program is a partnership between the City and the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Trees. To recognize donors, Bill Wolff was commissioned to create a tree sculpture for the City Hall atrium. The City also partnered with the Rehoboth Art League and artist Brett Steeves to create a new mural outside the Convention Center.

The City extends its sincere thanks to all the people involved in this event, and that is everyone from the Rehoboth Art League, Coastal Camera Club and the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Trees. More than anything else, we want to give thanks to the many artists that are represented at City Hall. They are some of the most creative and innovative people and are critical to the success of the fabric of our City. While the end product of all the public art displayed at City Hall is always beautiful, their deeper value lies in the conversations we create, the connections we build, and the legacy of relationships we foster along the way, often with transformative results. The experience of art moves us from the every day into the realm of possibility.
