Wastewater Operator II

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

Performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, including the treatment plant and collection system. Operates motorized equipment including but not limited to dump trucks, forklifts and tractors. Repairs and maintains pumps, motors and other equipment. Inspects, cleans, and maintains collections system, including manholes, sewer lines, and lift equipment. Monitors and controls all plant processes including pump flow rates, chemical feed rates, and bio solids inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Inspects, monitors and evaluates the plant process following established guidelines and procedures.
  • Monitors and controls plant processes including pump flow rates, chemical feed rates and bio solids inventory.
  • Maintains records and logs of plant operation and maintenance.
  • Performs routine process control testing following approved testing protocols.
  • Takes corrective action as required in the event of process malfunctions or equipment breakdowns.
  • Performs daily testing and inspection of treatment plant process operation.
  • Operates motorized equipment limited to dump trucks, forklifts and tractors.
  • Repairs and maintains pumps, motors and other equipment within the Waste Water facilities.
  • Performs general custodial work to keep facilities clean.
  • Cleans and maintains collections system, including manholes, sewer lines and lift equipment.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • A high school diploma and up to one (1) year of job-related course work after high school
  • At least one (1) to three (3) years of related work experience
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

Licenses or Certifications

  • Possession of a standard driver license
  • Wastewater Operator Level II

  • None.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A
