Rehoboth Beach adopts 2020 Comprehensive Development Plan

It’s been a long time coming – the process has required more than three years and 10 drafts, experienced pandemic and mapping delays, and included at least 18 Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners public meetings. Today, Rehoboth Beach Commissioners unanimously adopted the city’s 2020 Comprehensive Development Plan and requested certification from the governor.

“This plan not only meets the minimum requirements set forth by the state,” says Mayor Stan Mills, “it greatly exceeds typical content in a comprehensive development plan and will serve us well as we plan for the future. Congratulations and many thanks to the Planning Commission and to all who contributed to creation of Rehoboth Beach’s exceptional 2020 Comprehensive Development Plan.”

The newly adopted plan has sufficient goals and action items to keep the city busy for the next eight years before the next comprehensive update to the plan is expected to be completed. The 2020 plan outlines the city’s vision for the next decade and provides a roadmap for how Rehoboth Beach may arrive at its desired “future Rehoboth” destination. Commissioners are expected to meet in the near future to identify priorities and establish an implementation plan.

The 2020 Comprehensive Development Plan frames a vision for the one-square-mile residential community and active seaside resort and outlines goals and action items for getting to that vision.
