Water Department Equipment Operator

Under supervision of the water department superintendent, the person in this position operates heavy, motorized equipment, including dump trucks, tractors, sewer vacuum trucks, backhoes, forklifts, and front-end loaders. Performs routine and emergency maintenance on facilities and equipment. Operates, maintains, and repairs manholes, water/sewer lines, water meters, and treatment works. This individual is expected to have ability to report for work after hours and on weekends as needed for emergency repairs of critical equipment and during any city weather emergency. 

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
  • At least 1-3 years of related work experience.
  • Possession of a standard Delaware driver's license.
  • Possession of a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) - class B or ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
  • Water Operator Level I certification or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
