LEWES MAN DRIVING UNDER INFLUENCE ATTEMPTS TO FLEE FROM POLICE

Mar 27, 2018

Evan R. Mock, 30, of Lewes, Del. was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and any drug, as well as, failing to stop for police, a felony, after a Rehoboth Beach Police officer attempted to stop him for committing multiple traffic violations.

On Sunday (03/25/18) at around 1:40am, an officer observed Mock driving a red Mitsubishi Galant with Delaware registration in a manner consistent with someone attempting to elude the officer. Mock pulled off the road on two occasions, once into a business at which time he turned off his headlights, only to return to the roadway with them on a brief time later.  While the officer followed Mock, he committed multiple traffic violations, including driving on the wrong side of the roadway.

In the area of Rehoboth Avenue Extended westbound and State Route 1, the officer activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop Mock.  Mock failed to stop and continued northbound onto State Route 1 at speeds of approximately 50 MPH.  Mock eventually pulled over onto the shoulder of State Route 1 northbound just north of the Route 24 intersection; however, Mock failed to exit the vehicle as instructed by officers.  When officers observed Mock motion as if he was going to start the vehicle again, they responded by restraining and removing him from the vehicle.  Although Mock continued to resist the officers efforts and commands, he was taken into custody.

As a result of Mock’s resistance, he and both officers involved in his apprehension, sustained minor abrasions.

Mock was arrested and charged with 1 felony count of resisting arrest with force or violence, 1 felony count of disregarding a police officer’s signal, 1 count of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and any drug, 1 count of failing to stop at a stop sign, 2 counts of driving a vehicle on the wrong side of the roadway, 1 count of failure to have license in possession, 1 count of failure to have registration in possession, and 1 count of no proof of insurance.

Mock was committed to Sussex Correction Institution on $2356.00 secured bail.
