Vernell D. Armwood, 33, of Seaford, Del., was arrested Wednesday night in Rehoboth Beach on an outstanding warrant for his failure to appear in court on traffic related charges. At the time of his arrest, Armwood had in his possession marijuana and associated drug paraphernalia.
On March 29th, 2017, just after 9:30pm, a Rehoboth Beach Police officer, parked along North First Street, performed a registration check on Armwood’s vehicle, a brown Chevy Trailblazer, as it drove passed by him northbound towards Rehoboth Avenue. The inquiry revealed that Armwood, the registered owner of the vehicle, had an active arrest warrant for his failure to appear in the Justice of the Peace Court on traffic related charges.
The officer, who briefly lost sight of the vehicle, relocated the vehicle on Rehoboth Avenue in the area of the Traffic Circle where he utilized a Department of Motor Vehicle license photo of Armwood, the registered owner, to identify him as the driver of the vehicle. Subsequent to positive identification, the vehicle was stopped along Rehoboth Avenue eastbound, just east of the Traffic Circle.
Upon approaching the vehicle and taking Armwood into custody, the officer could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded multiple packages containing marijuana, as well as, associated drug paraphernalia. A total of 4 ounces of marijuana was recovered from the vehicle.
Armwood was arrested and charged with 1 count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana other than personal use quantity, 1 count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a civil offense, and 3 traffic related offenses including; 1 count of driving without a valid license, 1 count of failure to have insurance identification in possession, and 1 count of failure to have registration card in possession. Armwood was released on a $635.00 unsecured bond.
