On October 12, 2015 at 11:20am, Rehoboth Beach Police responded to the area of the Henlopen Hotel for a late reported indecent exposure complaint.

While at that location police made contact with a female victim who advised that earlier that morning around 7:45 am she observed a white male in his early 60’s expose his genitals in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue on the beach.  The female victim advised that while she was walking on the beach she observed the suspect, later identified as John Hurd, 61, of Lewes, partially concealed near the jetty area.  The victim advised that as she walked past the area the suspect approached her and began talking to her and as she passed by him he pulled his pants down and exposed his genitals.  The victim advised that as she hurried past the suspect, he began to perform a lewd act on himself. Rehoboth Police and the victim were able to positively identify the suspect due to Hurd’s prior contact with Rehoboth Police for suspicious behavior complaints.

Hurd was charged on October 11, 2015 with 1-Count of Lewdness and 1-Count of Indecent Exposure and released on a $1500 unsecured bond.  John Hurd was ordered to have no contact with the victim or the limits of the City of Rehoboth Beach and is scheduled to appear in the Court of Common Pleas on November 16, 2015.
