Jul 21, 2014

On Friday, July 18, 2014 at approximately 8:00pm Rehoboth Police responded to the area of King Charles Avenue at Norfolk Street in reference to a personal injury accident.  Through the course of investigation it was determined that 2010 Silver Mercedes SUV, being operated by a 16 year old female from Virginia, was traveling southbound on King Charles and attempted to make a U-Turn to park on the east side of King Charles Avenue.  Witnesses on scene advised that that Mercedes initially moved to the right then turned left into the path of a 2012 blue scooter, being operated by a 19 year old male subject from Pennsylvania, also traveling south bound on King Charles Avenue.  The operator of the scooter was unable to avoid the SUV and struck the driver side area of the Mercedes.  The 19 year old male subject, who was initially unconscious, was transported to Beebe Healthcare then later transported to Christiana Hospital in critical but stable condition.  The 16 year old female driver was cited for making an illegal u-turn, failure to signal, and no proof of insurance.  The 19 year old scooter operator condition improved and he was discharged from Christiana Hospital as of Monday, July 21, 2014.
