REHOBOTH BEACH MAN FACES FELONY DUI CHARGE

Roberto V. Alfaro, Jr., 58, of Rehoboth Beach, Del. was arrested for a fourth offense charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after a Rehoboth Beach Police Officer observed him run a red light.

On Friday at around 11:00pm, an officer sitting stationary in the area of Rehoboth Avenue and Second Street observed Alfaro driving his green Subaru Impreza displaying Delaware registration plates westbound on Rehoboth Avenue. As Alfaro drove through the intersection at Second Street the officer observed that he disregarded a red light.  The officer stopped Alfaro along Rehoboth Avenue westbound in the area of Lake Avenue. 

Upon initially contacting Alfaro, the officer observed that he showed signs of impairment and could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The officer also observed empty beer cans in the backseat of Alfaro’s car.  Alfaro was administered standardized field sobriety test during which he showed additional signs of impairment.  Alfaro was taken into custody, a blood analysis search warrant was obtained and he was transported to Beebe Healthcare where a blood draw was performed.        

Alfaro was arrested and charged with 1 count of felony fourth offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, 1 count of failure to stop at a red light, 1 count of failure to have insurance identification in possession, 1 count of failure to have registration card in possession, and 1 count of failure to have license in possession. 

Alfaro was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $5,650.00 cash bail.
