Nicholas Cannon, 17, of Dewey Beach, Del. was arrested Thursday (08/10/17) evening after running from officers attempting to stop him for trespassing on Rehoboth Elementary School property.

At around 9:00pm, a Rehoboth Beach Police bicycle patrol officer observed Cannon and another 17 year old male on bicycles exiting the softball field area of the elementary school, which is closed to the public after dark.  As the officer followed behind the two males, he could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from them.

The uniformed officer, using his emergency lights, identified himself and ordered the two males to stop.  Both initially stopped, but Cannon then fled on foot.  The unnamed juvenile who remained on scene was found to be in possession of approximately 1 ounce of suspected marijuana and 35 vaping cartridges containing THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, the chemical compound in cannabis.

Cannon was later located and taken into custody.  Officers recovered a backpack that Cannon was carrying when he fled that contained approximately a half ounce of suspected marijuana packaged in a manner consistent with sale.

The unnamed juvenile, a resident of Lewes, Del., was arrested and charged with 1 count of possession of marijuana and 1 count of third degree criminal trespass.  Both charges are misdemeanors.  He was released to an adult on his own recognizance.

Cannon was arrested and charged with 1 count of felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, 1 count of felony possession of a controlled substance in a tier 1 quantity, 1 count of misdemeanor resisting arrest, and 1 count of third degree criminal trespass. Cannon was released to an adult on his own recognizance.
