Gillie M. Tice, 39, of Dagsboro, Del. was arrested Tuesday afternoon (08/22/17) after driving her car into a fire hydrant at the corner of Christian Street and Scarborough Avenue while intoxicated.

At around 4:15pm, Rehoboth Beach Police were called to the intersection of Christian Street and Scarborough Avenue for a report of a single vehicle collision.  Upon arrival, the officer observed that Tice’s vehicle, a bluish-gray Pontiac G6 with Delaware registration, was disabled on the shoulder of the roadway.  It was determined through on-scene investigation that Tice, while driving eastbound on Christian Street from Rehoboth Avenue, failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway at the Scarborough Avenue intersection and struck the fire hydrant that was located on the southeast corner of the intersection.  The vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway on top of the broken fire hydrant.

When the investigating officer arrived on scene, Tice was present along with witnesses.  As the officer was completing paperwork in his vehicle, Tice fled the scene on foot into adjacent yards.  Tice was apprehended a short time later following a brief search of the area.  Once captured, Tice showed signs of intoxication.  She was taken into custody and transported to the Rehoboth Beach Police Department for further sobriety testing.

Tice was arrested and charged with 1 count of misdemeanor resisting arrest, 1 count of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, 1 count of failing to drive in proper lane, 1 count of driving over or upon a curb, 1 count of expired registration, 1 count of fail to sign and carry a driver’s license, and 1 count of failure to have insurance identification in possession. Tice has since been released on a $2000.00 unsecured bail.
