CHILD STRUCK BY VEHICLE IN CROSSWALK ON BROOKLYN AVENUE

Jun 07, 2016

On Tuesday morning officers from the Rehoboth Beach Police Department responded to a personal injury accident in which a three year old child was struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk of Brooklyn Avenue at the intersection of King Charles Avenue.

At around 9:30am, Redford C. Griffiths, 3, of Chadds Ford, Pa., was attempting to cross Brooklyn Avenue with his Father, Gary D. Griffiths, 49, his and six year old Brother. The three of them were walking in a Southern direction in the crosswalk at the intersection of King Charles Avenue.  At that time, Donna G. Summy, 62, of Harrisonburg, Va., who was operating a white 2012 Jeep Limited, entered the intersection on King Charles Avenue Southbound preparing to make a left turn onto Brooklyn Avenue.  As Summy made the left turn onto Brooklyn Avenue, Redford Griffiths had not yet cleared the crosswalk at which time the front of Summy’s vehicle struck him knocking him to the ground. Neither the Father nor the 6 year old Brother were struck by Summy’s vehicle.

As a result of the collision, Griffiths was transported to Beebe Healthcare for non-life threatening injuries to his left arm and a possible concussion.

Summay was issued a traffic citation for failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and no proof of insurance.
