BOMB THREAT CAUSES EVACUATION OF LOCAL BAR

Jul 02, 2016

On Friday evening a bomb threat caused the evacuation of the Conch Island Key West Bar and Grill in the 300 block of Rehoboth Avenue until investigators could complete a search for explosive devices.

At around 8:45pm the Rehoboth Beach Police Department 911 Center received a call from a dispatcher from the Key West Police Department Dispatch Center. The Key West dispatcher advised he had received a bomb threat to the Conch Island Key West Bar and Grill, which is located in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

The caller, who disguised his voice threatened that he had placed 3 pipe bombs inside the establishment in undisclosed locations.  The caller made money demands and threatened that he was not afraid to shoot officers.

In response, as a safety measure, with the cooperation of management, police immediately began the evacuation of The Conch Island Key West Bar and Grill, Conch Island Liquors, and sections of the Sand Castle Motel.  Explosive detection canine teams from the Delaware State Police and the Capital Police, as well as, members of the Delaware State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit responded to assist with the investigation.

After a thorough search, no explosive devices were located by investigators and the patrons were allowed to return.
