The City of Rehoboth Beach Annual Municipal Election
CITY OF REHOBOTH BEACH MUNICIPAL ELECTION - SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 2019
Annual Municipal Elections for the City of Rehoboth Beach are held on the second Saturday in August from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Convention Center located in the Municipal Building at 229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. In 2019, the election will be held on
At such annual election, every natural person, male or female, who shall have attained the age of Eighteen (18) years and who shall be a resident, freeholder or leaseholder, and who is registered on the Books of Registered Voters of The City of Rehoboth Beach shall have one (1) vote. NOTICE is hereby given to all qualified electors of the City of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, that the Annual Municipal Election will be held in said City on Saturday, August 10, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. eastern daylight-saving time, in the City of Rehoboth Beach Convention Center located at 229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
There are six (6) Candidates running for Commissioner in the August 10, 2019 Election. The Candidates are Mark J. Betchkal, Edward J. Chrzanowski, Charles G. Garlow, Susan M. Gay, Gary A. Glass, and Suzanne G. Goode. At said Annual Municipal Election, two (2) Commissioners shall be elected. The term of office for the two (2) persons receiving the highest number of votes for Commissioner, shall be for a term of three (3) years.
At said Annual Municipal Election, every person, male or female, who shall have attained the age of eighteen (18) years on the date of the Election, and who is a freeholder, leaseholder, in the City of Rehoboth Beach, or if the property is in a TRUST and the proper paperwork is on file with the City, whether or not a resident of the State of Delaware or of the City of Rehoboth Beach, and also every person male or female, who shall have attained the age of eighteen (18) years on the date of the election, and who shall be a bona fide resident of the State of Delaware, and the City of Rehoboth Beach, shall have one (1) vote, provided he or she has registered and is on the Books of Registered Voters of the City of Rehoboth Beach.
All votes shall be offered in person, or by absentee ballot. If an elector cannot appear at the regular polling place the day of the election, he/she may appear in City Hall, or contact City Hall and request an Absentee Ballot form to be mailed. Request for an Absentee Ballot may also be obtained from the City’s website (www.cityofrehoboth.com). The completed Request for an Absentee Ballot form must be filed no later than 12:00 noon August 9, 2019. After approval of the Request for an Absentee Ballot, an absentee ballot will be given/mailed to you. The last day for the City to mail Ballots is Tuesday, August 6, 2019. Ballots can be picked up at City Hall after this date. Absentee Ballots must be received before the polls close on the day of the Election. No voter shall vote for more candidates than there are offices to be filled at the election. Voting machines will be used. For the purpose of voting, a leaseholder shall be deemed to mean any person holding land under a valid lease either in his/her own name or who is the owner of an undivided interest in a leasehold with his/her spouse for an original term of not less than ten (10) years whose lease is recorded in the office of the Recorder of Deeds in and for Sussex County, and who is the owner of an improvement of at least One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).
Notice of Public Meeting
The Board of Elections has announced that the Absentee Election Judges shall meet on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 3:30 p.m. in the Conference Suite located in the City of Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, 229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, for the purpose of counting the Absentee Ballots that have been submitted in connection with the August 10, 2019, Municipal Election.

If you have a complaint in reference to any aspect of the pre-election activity that is contrary to the Municipal Election Law, please submit a written complaint to the City of Rehoboth Beach, 229 Rehoboth Avenue, P.O. Box 1163, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 to the attention of Stephen Simmons, Acting Chairperson of the Board of Elections.

If you meet any of the above qualifications and are eligible to vote in annual elections, you must appear in person at City Hall to complete a voter registration card. Please bring your driver’s license or a photo ID with you.
The deadline for voter registration is the close of business on Thursday, July 11, 2019.
Request for an absentee ballot form may be mailed to voters requesting them by calling 302-227-6181 ext. 108 or voters may visit REQUEST FOR ABSENTEE BALLOT to download the form. Absentee ballots will be available forty-five (45) days prior to election day (June 26, 2019). Ballots will be mailed to everyone who has a request for an absentee ballot form on file. The deadline for the City to mail ballots is the last Tuesday prior to election day (August 6, 2019). Completed ballots must be received in person or by mail before the polls close on the day of the election.
