The City of Rehoboth Beach Annual Municipal Election


Annual Municipal Elections for the City of Rehoboth Beach are held on the second Saturday in August from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Convention Center located in the Municipal Building at 229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. In 2019, the election will be held on 

At such annual election, every natural person, male or female, who shall have attained the age of Eighteen (18) years and who shall be a resident, freeholder or leaseholder, and who is registered on the Books of Registered Voters of The City of Rehoboth Beach shall have one (1) vote. If you would like to review the election provisions of the City’s Charter, you may do so by going to the City’s website, The Delaware State Code provisions relating to municipal elections may be reviewed by going to the State’s online code,

Voter Registration

If you meet any of the above qualifications and are eligible to vote in annual elections, you must appear in person at City Hall to complete a voter registration card. Please bring your driver’s license or a photo ID with you.

The deadline for voter registration is the close of business on Thursday, July 11, 2019. 

Absentee Voting

Request for an absentee ballot form may be mailed to voters requesting them by calling 302-227-6181 ext. 108 or voters may visit  PDF icon REQUEST FOR ABSENTEE BALLOT to download the form. Absentee ballots will be available forty-five (45) days prior to election day (June 26, 2019). Ballots will be mailed to everyone who has a request for an absentee ballot form on file. The deadline for the City to mail ballots is the last Tuesday prior to election day (August 6, 2019). Completed ballots must be received in person or by mail before the polls close on the day of the election. Notice of Solicitation of Candidates

The City of Rehoboth Beach will hold its Annual Municipal Election on Saturday, August 10, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Convention Center located in the Municipal building located at 229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach. Two (2) seats for City Commissioner will be contested. The terms of office are three (3) years for each position. To be eligible to vote on August 10, you must register on or before July 11, 2019.

Candidates for elective offices in the City of Rehoboth Beach shall be, by petition, signed by not less than ten (10) or more than twenty-five (25) qualified electors of the City and filed in the City Manager’s office on or before 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2019. 

The Commissioners of Rehoboth Beach shall be the judge of each candidate’s qualifications as prescribed by the City Charter. At the Commissioners regular meeting on June 21, 2019,  starting at 3:00 p.m., the Commissioners of Rehoboth Beach shall sit in open meeting to judge the qualifications of candidates so nominated.

Each nominating petition shall designate only one person to be voted for as a Commissioner of Rehoboth Beach.

No qualified elector shall sign the nominating petition of more candidates than there are elective offices to be filled. Each elector signing such petition shall also state whether he/she signed such petition as a freeholder, as a leaseholder, or as a resident.

Attached to each nominating petition an affidavit must be included of the circulator thereof stating the following:  the number of signers; that each signature appended thereto was made in his/her presence; that each signature is the genuine signature of the person whose name it purports to be; and that all of the said signers are entitled to vote at the Regular Municipal Election referred to.

Any qualified elector may request an absentee ballot to vote by filing a request for an absentee ballot form no later than 12:00 p.m. the day before the election, Friday, August 9, 2019.
