Public Notice - Rehoboth Beach Board of Elections Meeting

Municipal Election: Saturday, August 14

The City of Rehoboth Beach will hold its annual municipal election from 10 am-6 pm Saturday, August 14, 2021 in the Convention Center, located at 229 Rehoboth Avenue. Two seats for City Commissioner will be contested. Terms of office are three years for each position. To be eligible to vote on August 14, you must register at City Hall on or before July 15, 2021.

Certified candidates for this election are:

  • Timothy Bennett
  • Richard Byrne
  • Rachel Macha
  • Mary Sharp

At such annual election, every natural person, male or female, who is at least 18; a resident, freeholder, or leaseholder with the city limits; and registered in the Books of Registered Voters of the City of Rehoboth Beach shall have one vote.  See the city’s charter.

The deadline for voter registration to vote in the 2021 municipal election is close of business Thursday, July 15, 2021. City Hall is open from 8:30 am-12:30  pm Saturdays through August 7 (except for July 3) to help facilitate matters related to the election.

If you miss two consecutive annual elections, your name will be placed on an inactive list. You will be notified by a postcard requesting your voting status.

Absentee ballots will be sent to everyone who has an Absentee Ballot Request form on file. The deadline for the city to mail ballots is the last Tuesday prior to the election, August 10, 2021. Returned ballots must be received by mail or in person before polls close on election day.

Please return absentee ballot requests to: City of Rehoboth Beach, 229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE  19971.  The form must be completed and signed to be processed.

Notice of Solicitation of Candidates 

The filing deadline for nominating petitions for the August 14 election has passed. Four candidates were certified at the Board of Commissioners' June 18 meeting:

  • Timothy Bennett
  • Richard Byrne
  • Rachel Macha
  • Mary Sharp

Candidates for elective offices in the City of Rehoboth Beach must submit a nominating petition signed by not less than 10 or more than 25 qualified electors of the city and filed in the city manager’s office. Requests for a nominating petition may be submitted by email or by callling 302-227-6181, ext. 159. Each nominating petition shall designate only one person to be voted for as a commissioner of Rehoboth Beach.

An affidavit must be attached to each nominating petition stating the following: 

  • the number of signers
  • that each signature appended thereto was made in his/her presence
  • that each signature is the genuine signature of the person whose name it purports to be
  • all of said signers are entitled to vote at the regular municipal election referred to.

No qualified elector shall sign the nominating petition of more candidates than there are elective offices to be filled.  Each elector signing such petition shall also state whether he/she signed such petition as a freeholder, leaseholder, or resident.

    Absentee Ballots

    Absentee ballots will be available beginning Wednesday, June 30, 2021. Ballots will mailed to everyone who has a request for an absentee ballot form on file. The deadline for the city to mail ballots is August 10, 2021. 

    Any qualified elector may request an absentee ballot by:

    • dowloading the form and submitting the signed, completed form to the city elections office
    • calling 302-227-6181, ext 159

    Requests for an absentee ballot must be received by the city no later than noon Friday, August 13, 2021.

    Completed ballots must be received in person or by mail before the polls close on the day of the election. Return ballots to the City of Rehoboth Beach, 229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE  19971.
