Annual Maintenance Programs

Stormwater/sanitary sewer cleaning & video inspection

Work began November 29 on cleaning and video inspection of select sanitary sewer and stormwater lines throughout the city. This map indicates where work is taking place.

Street paving & water main replacement

The City of Rehoboth Beach maintains and repairs streets through its annual paving program, which protects the community's investment in street infrastructure. Studies show that maintaining streets is five times more cost-effective than rebuilding them after they have failed.

As more roadways may need attention than there is available funding for, the city's annual paving program prioritizes roadway sections that offer long-term benefits to the city. The City of Rehoboth Beach routinely inspects roads to determine when and what type of maintenance is needed, looking for common surface deficiencies such as generally deteriorated surfaces, cracks, and pavement distortions. The city's considers the pavement's condition, prior maintenance history, traffic and truck volume, and other factors to help determine the most cost-effective treatment and appropriate time to apply the treatment.

In 2021, the City of Rehoboth Beach has contracted with George & Lynch to perform repair and repaving work on the following streets:

  • Lake Drive: from Scarborough Avenue to Bayard Avenue
  • Martin's Lane: from Christian Street to the library
  • Maryland Avenue: from 1st to 2nd Street
  • Olive Avenue: from the boardwalk to 2nd Street
  • Stockley Street Extension: from State Road to the end
  • Surf Avenue: from Columbia Avenue to Lake Avenue

(See map of roads to be repaired and repaved marked in red.)

Work is expected to begin in October and to be completed by the end of the calendar year. Please note that inclement weather or unforeseen conditions may cause delays to this schedule.

Scheduled work hours are 8 am-5 pm Monday-Friday.

During this work, sections of the road may be closed to through traffic but open to local traffic. Advance road closure signage will be erected, and signed detour routes will be provided to direct motorists around road closures.
