Jul 31, 2015

On Thursday, July 30, 2015 at approximately 5:00am Rehoboth Police responded to the area of Starbucks, 301 Rehoboth Avenue, in reference to a carjacking complaint that had just occurred.

Rehoboth Police made contact with a 58 year-old male victim who advised that he parked his 2014 four-door, dark blue Prius, with Maryland registration 1BB5622, on Fourth Street on the east side of Starbucks around 5:00am. The victim stated that he went into Starbucks and when he came back out of the location he was approached by two younger looking males.

The victim advised that one of the male suspects was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and the other wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with some sort of material covering the lower portion of his face. The victim stated that both males suspects had what appeared to be small caliber .22 revolver style handguns and ordered the victim to provide them with the keys to his vehicle which he complied to. The suspect wearing the gray hooded sweatshirt was last seen running north on Fourth Street then east on Sussex Street, the suspect with the blue hooded sweatshirt left the location in the stolen Prius traveling in the same direction.

Through an investigation it was determined that three male suspects, two matching the description of the suspects in the carjacking, attempted to commit an armed robbery at the 7-Eleven at approximately 4:50am. In this incident the female clerk was in the office area and observed the suspects enter the 7-Eleven with their faces covered. The female clerk was able to secure herself into the office and the suspects fled. The incident was not initially reported to the police department.
