DOVER MAN ARRESTED AFTER TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DUI AND DRUG ARREST

Cason D. Marshall, 19, of Dover, Del. was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop for speeding on Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach.  A passenger in the vehicle, David I. Brown, 20, of Dover, Del. faces criminal charges after fleeing the stop on foot.  He remains at large. 

On Monday at around 9:52pm, a Rehoboth Beach Police Officer stopped Marshall who was driving a Dodge Dart on Rehoboth Avenue Westbound in excess of the posted speed limit.  The traffic stop was conducted on Grove Street in the area of Columbia Avenue. 

Upon approaching the vehicle and contacting Marshall, the driver, the officer could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.  Marshall, who showed signs of impairment, was removed from the vehicle, administered standardized field sobriety test, and was subsequently arrested.

The vehicle was also occupied by three additional passengers to include Brown and two 16 year old juveniles.  The passengers were removed from the vehicle while a search was conducted.  Once removed from the vehicle, Brown fled on foot.  Additional responding units searched the area, but were unable to locate Brown who was last seen running Eastbound on Sussex Street. 

Officers searched the vehicle and located two plastic bags containing in excess of 50 grams of marijuana in the areas that Marshall and Brown were previously seated. 

As a result of the subsequent investigation, it was determined that Brown was in violation of an active domestic violence protective order preventing him from coming within 100 yards of one of the juveniles in the vehicle. 

Cason D. Marshall was arrested and charged with 5 misdemeanor crimes and two traffic violations to include; 2 counts of possession of marijuana, 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, 1 count of possession of drug paraphernalia, 1 count of driving under the influence of a drug, and 1 count of speeding in excess of 25 MPH. He was arraigned out of the Justice of the Peace Court 3, issued a $3050.00 secured bail and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of David I. Brown for 4 misdemeanor crimes to include; 1 count of possession of marijuana, 1 count of possession of drug paraphernalia, 1 count of resisting arrest, and 1 count of criminal contempt of a domestic violence protective order.  Brown remains at large.  Anyone who knows the whereabouts of David I.
