Naim H. Guy, 34, of Rehoboth, Del., was arrested Thursday night for resisting arrest after he was stopped for trespassing in Grove Park and found to have active warrants for his arrest.

On June 15th, 2017, at around 10:30pm, a Rehoboth Beach Police bicycle officer on patrol in Grove Park observed Guy sitting in a pavilion inside the park.  All entrances to the park having posted signage which advises that the park closes at dark; therefore, the officer stopped Guy for trespassing and performed a wanted person’s check. In addition to being in the park after dark, Guy was in possession of an open container of alcohol and smoking a cigarette, which are both violations of city ordinances.

The wanted person’s check revealed that Guy had an active warrant for his arrest for failing to pay on fines assessed to him through the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.  When officers attempted to take Guy into custody and ordered him to place his hands behind his back he refused and began to walk away.  The officers were forced to restrain Guy against a nearby picnic table and force his hands behind his back and into handcuffs.

Guy was arrested and charged with 1 count of resisting arrest and 1 count of third degree trespass, which are both misdemeanor crimes. Guy was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $284.00 cash secured bail.

Release by PIO Lt. Jaime B. Riddle.
