Rehoboth Beach Main Street Championed by Commissioners

Nov 22, 2017

Rehoboth commissioners voted to provide $20k of funding, temporary office space, and support to continue the Main Street organization at their regular meeting November 17. Rehoboth Beach Main Street is part of a larger national program which was formed to revitalize downtowns and commercial districts through preservation-based economic development and community revitalization. “Rehoboth Beach Main Street was founded in 1996, and contributed to creating a thriving business community that benefits our residents and visitors,” said Commissioner Kathy McGuiness. “Rehoboth Beach Main Street’s support includes residents, visitors and our local small businesses across the city. The organization is known for the Independence Day fireworks; the local artist dolphin program; the sign/façade program; streetscape and other beautifications of the city. These initiatives, combined with the maintained and accessible beaches, helped lead Rehoboth Beach to be recognized across the country as the “Nation’s Summer Capital”.  “Rehoboth Beach is clearly in a resurgence,” stated Trey Kraus, local business owner and president of Rehoboth Beach Main Street. “We are fortunate to have a progressive new mayor and commissioners who support local businesses, while always keeping the residents welfare at the forefront of decision-making. Advocacy for a renewed Main Street is one of many actions that shows the city’s commitment to our local businesses.” Main Street is currently refining its business plan, which will include activities such as providing guidance for new businesses, sponsoring events, and other activities.
