Kristol L. Zimmerman, 37, of Felton, Del., was arrested Sunday for driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering the welfare of a child after police responded to a collision, which she caused, on the Coastal Highway Rehoboth-Lewes Canal Bridge.

On Sunday (07/09/17) at around 7:15pm, Rehoboth Beach Police were called to the northbound lanes of the Coastal Highway Rehoboth-Lewes Canal Bridge for a report of a property damage collision.  Upon arrival, the investigating officer contacted Zimmerman and observed that she was showing signs of intoxication.  During the course of the on-scene investigation, Zimmerman was administered standardized field sobriety test during which she showed additional signs of intoxication ultimately leading to her arrest.

Zimmerman had been operating a 2000 silver Nissan Maxima in the left lane of Coastal Highway north bound when the vehicle in front of her, a 1996 Toyota Corolla, stopped.  It was determined that Zimmerman was following the vehicle too closely resulting in a rear-end collision.  No one was injured during the collsion; however, the investigation revealed that Zimmeran had her 2 year old son in the rear passenger seat of her vehicle.  It was further determined that her son, while in a car seat, was not properly secured.

Zimmerman was arrested and charged with 1 count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, 1 count of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and 1 count of following a motor vehicle too closely.

Zimmerman was released on $1001.00 unsecured bail.

Release by PIO Lt. Jaime B. Riddle.
