The City of Rehoboth Beach Notice of Solicitation of Candidates

The City of Rehoboth Beach will hold its Annual Municipal Election on Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department. Two (2) seats for City Commissioner and one (1) seat for Mayor will be contested. The terms of office are three (3) years for each position. To be eligible to vote on August 12, 2017, you must register on or before July 13, 2017.

Candidates for elective offices in the City of Rehoboth Beach shall be, by petition, signed by not less than ten (10) or more than twenty-five (25) qualified electors of the city and filed in the City Manager’s office on or before 4:30 p.m. on Monday June 5, 2017.

The Commissioners of Rehoboth Beach shall be judge of each candidate’s qualifications as prescribed by the City Charter. At the Commissioners regular meeting on June 16, 2017, starting at 8:00 p.m., the Commissioners of Rehoboth Beach shall sit in open meeting to judge the qualifications of candidates so nominated.

Each nominating petition shall designate only one person to be voted for as a Commissioner of Rehoboth Beach or as Commissioner with the title of Mayor.

No qualified elector shall sign the nominating petition of more candidates than there are elective offices to be filled. Each elector signing such petition shall also state whether he/she signed such petition as a freeholder, as a leaseholder, or as a resident.

Attached to each nominating petition an affidavit must be included of the circulator thereof stating the following:  the number of signers; that each signature appended thereto was made in his/her presence; that each signature is the genuine signature of the person whose name it purports to be; and that all of said signers are entitled to vote at the Regular Municipal Election referred to.

Any qualified elector may request an absentee ballot to vote by filing a written affidavit no later than 12:00 p.m. the day before the election, Friday, August 11, 2017. Certain requirements must be met to vote absentee. For more information, please refer to the City Charter, available online at www.cityofrehoboth.com, or contact Donna Moore at (302) 227-6181, ext. 108.
